Our Initiatives

Campus Services’ buildings were the first on campus to offer composting services to our students.

Green Goodbyes is one of the first programs on campus to reuse items from student housing during move-out.

The Stinger fleet recently acquired hybrid-electric buses and is planning on adding 100% electric buses soon.
Community Garden
Located near Paper and Clay and the Instructional Center, the Community Garden is a living classroom and growing space where students can volunteer, grow food, and learn sustainable gardening practices. Open to all Georgia Tech students, faculty, and staff.
Kendeda Rooftop Garden
Located on the roof of the Kendra building, Georgia Tech’s living building. Student volunteers care for four growing beds where they grow food, cook items they grow, and learn sustainable practices.

Championing Sustainability
Campus Services has a strong record of leadership in championing sustainability in the operations and culture of its units. Many of our programs have their origins in grassroots efforts, often driven by staff and student interests, long before the overall campus had commitments to sustainability. With the addition of Sustainability Next, a set of sustainability goals for the Institute, Campus Services is well positioned to support the success of Sustainability Next and continue to be a leader on our most critical issues facing the Institute.

Our programs to incorporate students in sustainability are unmatched on campus, with EcoReps and similar initiatives empowering students to be leaders on environmental and social issues to their peers.

Tech Dining operations and initiatives align with its commitment to sustainability. This translates into partnering with local producers, promoting social equity, and helping the environment by reducing waste.
Composting
Composting reduces organic waste in landfills, decreasing greenhouse gas emissions and producing nutrient-rich soil for healthier plant growth.
Engagement & Education
Designed to promote sustainability and food awareness among students, our programs not only nourish minds but also foster a deep sense of responsibility towards the environment.
Food Donations
Designed to reduce food waste and address food insecurity on campus. Provide regular donations to Georgia Tech’s campus food pantry, Klemis Kitchen, thereby directly increasing the accessibility of fresh, wholesome meals to students who are experiencing food insecurity.

The Georgia Tech Community Market is a longstanding tradition celebrating local business and healthy lifestyles all in a community atmosphere.

Housing and Residence Life
Sustainable Living
Whether you live on campus or off, the actions you take within your room or apartment can be greatly beneficial to the environment, as well as your own health and wellbeing. Please consider being mindful of the environment when living on campus, through simple actions such as shorter showers, unplugging your appliances when not in use, and buying Energy Star certified appliances when needed. Also be on the lookout for our sustainability-themed events such as the Energy Competition and Green Goodbyes and join the Ecoreps if you’d like to get more involved!

Latest Developments
Senior Design Project
Georgia Tech Dining, taking feedback from a semester long Senior Design project that examined recycling and composting processes at several of their locations, has initiated a strategic redesign of its waste collection infrastructure to continue to reduce the amount of waste headed to landfills while significantly reducing contamination in the recycling and compost bins.
